The contemporary design incorporates a real grain bin recognizing the importance of grain and agricullture to the area. The architect, Glen Strait of Strait Associates is a citizen of Colby. The Fun Zone play- ground area was designed and constructed by the citizens of Thomas County. Site of many community festivals and events 6) First Presbyterian Church The church was organized in 1886 and the first church building housed the first church bell rung in Colby. The bell now stands in front of the church at 515 W 4th Street. 7) Colby City Hall This art-deco sand-colored building was built in the 1920’s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Placed. It is located at 585 N Franklin. 8) Houston House, Rexford Kansas Classic 1906 Victorian Home, listed on the Kansas Registry of Historic Places. It is owned by Shepher’s Staff Christian Retreat Center and is being remodeled into a bed and breakfast. It is located at 340 Kansas Street. Santa City Santa City is a forested winter wonderland with animated woodland animals performing Christmas tasks. Mrs. Claus hands out sugar cookies and Santa is available to listen for those Christmas wishes. Santa City is located in Fike Park, downtown Colby. Most have playground equipment for the children to enjoy. Fike Park is the major city park located in downtown Colby. There are tennis courts, horseshoe pits, volleyball area and basketball courts. There are two gazebos--one is used for eating. The park is also home of the Fun Zone which has colorful playground equipment which is handicapped accessible. This park is used for many events and family reunions throughout the year. Villa High Park is located on South Range. This picturesque park features a lake where fishing is enjoyed by the youngsters. There is also playground equipment and a picnic area.
Colby Bowl and Fun Center is located at 1175 S Range. Open, League and Extreme Bowling await the bowling enthusiast. Pinball machines and other games of skill are also available. 785-460-2672 The Colby Golf Course is located on North Country Club Drive or 1085 E Golf Club Drive. This is a nine hole course. For tee time and green fees, 785-460-6443 Colby Municipal Swimming Pool, an outdoor pool, is located at 200 E 5th. Open summer months. The bath house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. College Swimming Pool is an indoor pool and is located on the College Campus. Call for hours open to the public. Colby Cinema is located at 1935 S Range. This is a twin theater with two films shown each evening. Call 785-460-9600 Colby Ball Diamonds are located on 8th ave just east of Country Club Drive. Litttle League, American Legion, and K-18 Ball as well as games sponsored by the Colby Recreation Department. Colby Racquetball is located at 1115 S Franklin Ave. Handball and racquetball courts and scuba diving lessons are available. Western Plains Arts Association is a non-profit association offering a large variety of programs throughout the year in various communities throughout Northwest Kansas.
